- I'm a neurologist. I see a lot of women with headache who are pregnant, and they're coming in with worsening of their headaches, or for any other neurological complaints, and I talk to them about stroke risk. And I try not to scare them, but I also try to really educate them in particular about that postpartum period. Because many women get headaches in the postpartum period, but they may not realize that if their blood pressure is also elevated, that that really could be a red flag. So, I teach them about the signs and the symptoms of stroke, and I teach them about some of these warning signs. Very severe headache, very sudden onset headache, that's like a thunderclap, or headache with elevated blood pressure that they really need to go to the emergency room for that. And that, if they feel that they're not being taken seriously by the providers that they see, that they need to advocate for themselves.
